Surrendering in Blackjack

The most common situation is when you have 13 or 14, and the dealer’s upcard is an 8 or higher.
You’re now in a situation where you have to hope you draw a 7 or 8 with your next card, while knowing that it’s likely you will bust.
Surrendering at least means you get half your stake back. If you play standard blackjack and get a hand of 14 against the dealer’s King, for example, you’ll be hoping to defy some pretty long odds of catching a winning card.

Discretion is sometimes the better part of valour. That half stake you get back is something you can invest in your next hand, when you find yourself with a blackjack.

Everything else about surrender blackjack is exactly the same as the standard game, so it’s not something you ever have to use if you don’t fancy it.
